Hunting Tips

Cutting Shooting Lanes

Be sure to get out and cut your shooting lanes in the summer months. This will have a geat impact on deer if you do it right befor season starts.

Scent Bombs
A few 35mm film canisters with cotton balls and your favorite sent make great scent bombs to place around your stand. They seal tight and travel well.

Tuning Broadheads
Before you try tuning your broadheads make sure you bow is properly set up,everything fro nock points to your rest and nocking loop if ya have one. With the bow set up right tuning your broadheads will be allot easier.

Using topographic maps to help scout an area

Use a topographic map of the area you plan to hunt to view trails and roads in the area, possible funnel areas, potential buck bedding areas, and water sources. Scout those areas before the season begins so that you know what to expect and where to look for game.

Rattling
When the rut is begining in your area its a great TIME TO BREAK OUT THE OLD RATTLING HORNS.Most people have come to belive this only works in areas with low buck to doe ratios, this is not always the case.most are concerned with how long to rattle and when, rattle when ever you want, when your seeing distant deer or when your not seeing any at all, but be ready the action could come fast. start with a few grunts of varying tones then rake the ground periodicaly "stomping" the ground with the antler buts, to simulate stomping deer. as loud and hard as you can thrash a nearby shrub or tree and then bash the antlers together as hard as you can grind the antlers like 2 huge bucks in a shoveing contest. light tine ticking will only sound like juviniles, you want to sound like dominate bucks fighting for the most receptive doe in the area. this will draw bucks of all sizes, even young buck will resond hoping they can slip in and breed the receptive doe while the mature bucks are occupied. i hunt in an area where the buck to doe ratio is around 1 to 9, not very good, but i nearly always have a response! last year i rattled in and harvested a 150 inch 9 pointer i spotted at 2pm crusing a oak flat. when the deer is close dont clash the horns together just grind them, and i promise he will come to investigate. good luck and may god make your bullets and arrows fly true.

Pull your weapon into your stand
When climbing into your stand, leave your bow or your gun on the ground. Using a rope that's longer than the height where your stand is located, tie one end to your weapon, and then tie the other end to the stand or to yourself (depending on the type of stand).
After you're in the tree and you and the stand are secure, pull your weapon up to you.
Additional tip: Always unload your gun before climbing into the stand, just in case the gun falls while pulling it up.

2 eyes open
Have you ever seen a deer, and looked thruogh you scope at it , but could not find it through the scope? Keeping both eyes open elimenates this problem.Look through the scope with one eye, and at the deer with the other eye. This is kinda hard at first
