ItÕs that time of the month! If you hear that coming from a Predator Hunter and he isnÕt smiling, itÕs not some new medical oddity, heÕs meaning it is the full phase of the moon. Each time that sun goes down and its just as just as bright when the moon comes up many predator hunters wonÕt even set out in the field. I was this way for many years until I found the three secrets to calling in the full moon phase at night.
The first secret I found to calling in the full moon light is to get away from that truck or what ever form of transportation you usually hunt from at night. The predators we are after have keen eye site and they see way better than we can imagine at night. So remember, camo up and start walking.
The second is your choice of lighting. If you are in a state that lets you call with artificial light and you want to call during the full moon phase of night your going to have to find a light that is portable and definitely has a red lens. Any other steps you can find to narrow the spot down and dim the light somewhat will help. A high end light from Light Force makes a great choice. The light force company has come up also with a walk about battery pack for there lights. If you can afford one get one. These lights work great for full moon calling.
The final trick I found is choosing the perfect location. This I found is the most important practice I found to make Full Moon Calling work. When picking that spot look for somewhere you can be concealed in the shadows had have a light colored grass, dirt, or topping in front of you. On those nights when the moon is really full you wonÕt even have to use a light. The thicker cover you get into and the more you have to use the light the less success your going to have during these times of the moon phase. One trick I also found is to pack that shotgun along instead of your trusty rifle, unless you have some great optics mounted.
On those nights when the Moon is really bright and you have good light colored covering, snow makes the best, you can also grab that handi shotgun, that digital caller, and that feather on a stick decoy for a successful night when others are at home with mommy.
So rememberÉ When its that time of the month, donÕt stove up and stay inside, change your tactics, experiment with different things, and call more critters than your buddies do during that Full Moon Phase.
